How much do mediation sessions cost?
AMCS has standard hourly fees depending on the mediation type. AMCS is able to perform interpersonal, marital, and family mediations as well as commercial and organizational mediations. For non-profit or church mediations, AMCS will assess fees on a case-by-case basis.
How are cancellations handled?
We understand that life happens. Unless there is an emergency, we require 24-hour notification. If there is no emergency, no 24-hour notification, and/or a no-show, a minimum of 2 hours will be billed to the parties.
How long does a mediation take?
Depending on the conflict, mediation can be an hour and or can stretch into multiple days. While AMCS will be working toward resolutions as quickly as possible, it really depends on the parties’ willingness to communicate and engage in the mediation process.
Does mediation work?
Yes!, however, we believe that mediation can only be as effective as each party willingly engages in the mediation process. Of course, no one can be forced to participate or agree. While our mediators provide the best possible environment for communication and understanding, parties must be willing to listen to one another to achieve the best possible outcome.
What happens during a mediation session?
Typically, a session starts with a brief statement from both parties about what brings them to mediation, then the mediator begins to address the issues one-by-one via non-defensive communication and questions. Ideally, the parties begin to hear one another’s perspectives, then communication and understanding generally beget options and solutions.
What is your mediation approach?
AMCS aims to provide a neutral and facilitative atmosphere for all parties involved. Mediators are to engender constructive communication and understanding between parties; never to prescribe, force, order or judge. Each party is strongly encourage to express themselves in a respectful and constructive manner.
Are our sessions confidential?
All sessions are kept confidential from any third party unless state or federal law dictates otherwise. Before mediation sessions ensue, each party will be informed of the limitations of confidentiality. All notes and materials (besides the agreement) will be shredded or destroyed to protect parties involved.
